Three boys from the Rugeley area have been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life after a wildfire broke out in woodland off Bower Lane, Etchinghill, on Thursday evening.
What happened
Staffordshire Police said crews were called to the blaze at about 16:45 BST. Firefighters brought the fire under control and an investigation concluded the fire had been started deliberately by pieces of wood being ignited and thrown into the trees.
The three boys, aged 12, 13 and 14, were detained by officers. Police thanked local people whose home CCTV footage helped identify the suspects and their movements.
"I would like to express my thanks to local residents who helped us identify the suspects and their movements early on through home CCTV," Insp Stephen Windridge said.
