Two teenage boys have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 17-year-old boy died following a stabbing at Kingsway Recreation Ground in Luton on Friday evening.

Police response and arrests

Officers were called to the park at about 18:30 after reports of violent disorder involving groups of teenagers. The 17-year-old was taken to hospital with multiple stab wounds and was pronounced dead shortly afterwards, Bedfordshire Police said.

Two boys who were initially detained on suspicion of violent disorder have now been re-arrested on suspicion of murder. One of the suspects remains in custody; the other is receiving treatment in hospital with injuries described as serious but not life-threatening.

Community impact and appeals

Detective Chief Inspector Nick Gardener condemned the incident and described it as “horrific violence” that has claimed a young life. Police have warned against sharing distressing images or videos relating to the incident and urged anyone with information to come forward.

“Horrific violence in Luton has sadly cost a teenage boy his life today. Our thoughts are first and foremost with the loved ones of the boy who lost his life in such tragic circumstances.”

Local councillor Zanib Raja, representing Biscot Ward, said the park was a place many residents grew up in and appealed for the community to avoid circulating alleged footage and to come together following the tragedy.
