Primary care services across Coventry and Warwickshire have secured a top-five position nationally after patients reported strong experiences with their GP practices in the latest GP Patient Survey.
High overall satisfaction and digital uptake
The combined area of Coventry and Warwickshire was placed fourth among 36 health areas in England, rising two places from last year. The result follows responses from more than 2 million patients registered with over 6,200 GP practices across the country.
Locally, around four in five respondents described their overall experience of their GP practice as either good or very good. The survey also found universal availability of online services through the NHS App across practices in the region, with nearly half of patients using the app to order repeat prescriptions.
| Measure | Reported level |
|---|---|
| Overall experience rated good/very good | ~80% |
| Patients ordering prescriptions via NHS App | Nearly 50% |
| Found it easy to contact practice by app, website or phone | ~60% |
| Happy with involvement in care decisions | Over 90% |
Local practices showing strong results
Improvements to telephone and online systems were highlighted as contributing factors to the rise in satisfaction. The survey suggested many patients find it straightforward to use practice websites and the NHS App to communicate with their surgery.
"Our practices continue to make improvements including by introducing better telephone and online systems, as well as enabling better access to features of the NHS App to allow ordering repeat prescriptions, accessing medical records and receiving messages about their care and treatment."
The quote came from the chief medical officer at NHS Coventry and Warwickshire Integrated Care Board, commenting on the progress local practices have made in recent months.
One practice in the county achieved an exceptional result. Budbrooke Medical Centre, near Warwick, was one of only two practices in England to record a 100 per cent score in this year’s survey — every returned questionnaire rated the patient’s experience as good. The practice’s management described the result as recognition of staff commitment and patient-focused service.
- More than 2 million patients were surveyed nationally.
- Coventry and Warwickshire rose two places to 4th overall.
- Universality of NHS App services reported across the region.
What this means for patients
The survey underscores a trend towards greater digital engagement with GP services locally, which can speed routine transactions such as prescription requests and access to records. However, local leaders acknowledged there is still work to do to ensure services are accessible to everyone in a way that suits them.
Patients who have difficulty using online systems are encouraged to contact their practice directly to discuss alternative arrangements. Practices retain responsibility for offering a range of access routes, including telephone and in-person appointments.
The results will be used by NHS Coventry and Warwickshire to target further improvements and to maintain high standards of care across the county.
