A blast outside a restaurant in central Moscow on Saturday evening has left at least three people dead and 21 more injured, Russian officials reported.

The explosion occurred at about 20:10 local time (18:10 UK time), according to the Tass news agency citing an interior ministry official. Initial reports suggested the cause might have been a gas canister, but the National Anti‑Terrorist Committee later confirmed the device brought to the eatery was an improvised explosive device (IED) carried by a woman.
Authorities said those killed included a security guard who intervened to stop the woman from taking the device inside the restaurant, the woman herself and a customer. Emergency services moved rapidly to evacuate the area and treat the injured.
