North Yorkshire Police have arrested a man after a cyclist was injured in central York on Thursday evening, prompting a police cordon around the Museum Gardens area and an ongoing investigation.
Incident and arrest
Officers were called to Museum Street at about 8.08pm on Thursday, where a man cycling in the area sustained slash wounds. The cyclist, described by police as being in his 50s and from Leeds, was taken to hospital for treatment and subsequently discharged.
A 37-year-old man was detained nine minutes after the reported assault — at approximately 8.17pm — and remains in custody while enquiries continue. The arrest was carried out by officers trained to use a Taser; the device was not deployed. A knife, described by police as a carpentry-type blade, was recovered at the scene.

The force said the detained man faces questioning in relation to an alleged offence of section 18 wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Police established a cordon in and around Museum Gardens to allow forensic teams to examine the area. Officers are appealing for anyone who saw the incident, or who has dashcam or mobile phone footage, to come forward to assist the inquiry.
