Mansfield Lawn Tennis Club is hoping to tempt more locals on to the courts this summer with a new junior camp and regular social sessions for players of all ages.
Local opportunity for youngsters and newcomers
The club will stage a half‑day Junior Camp on Wednesday 29 July at its Pheasant Hill site. The session, aimed at children aged 4–16, runs from 9am until 12pm and costs £20. According to organisers, all equipment will be supplied so families do not need to buy racquets or balls to take part.
Sessions are led by the club’s recently appointed coach, known locally as Kal, who is described as "highly‑rated" by committee members. The camp welcomes players of all standards, from complete beginners to youngsters already familiar with match play.

Club treasurer Helen Riby and committee member Jan told visitors they are hoping to build on wider interest in British tennis sparked by recent high‑profile performances at Wimbledon and beyond.
“When Emma Raducanu won the US Open, we certainly saw a bounce in young girls wanting to try tennis,” Helen said.
They noted that Arthur Fery’s run to the Wimbledon semi‑finals has also raised awareness, although the committee suspects the current wave of football interest around the World Cup may have tempered any immediate spike in enquiries.
