A 16-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of a 17-year-old who died after suffering multiple stab wounds in Kingsway Recreation Ground, Luton. The incident took place on Friday evening and remains under investigation by the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit.
What happened
Officers were called to the park at about 6.30pm following reports that several teenagers had been seen "carrying large knives". A 17-year-old male was taken to hospital with multiple stab wounds but died a short time later, Bedfordshire Police confirmed. The alleged victim has not yet been formally identified; his family are being supported by specially trained officers.
Arrests and charges
The investigation has so far resulted in a number of arrests and one charge:
- One 16-year-old boy charged with murder and remanded in custody (age reporting restrictions apply).
- Several other teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of murder and related offences; reports identify multiple 17-year-olds among those arrested.
- One 17-year-old who was seriously injured at the scene is now in police custody, according to police statements.

“We are progressing our investigation, and we are continuing to appeal to anyone who was in the area, or witnessed the events leading up to the disorder to please get in touch,”
The appeal was made by Detective Chief Inspector Nick Gardener, who said officers were carrying out additional high-visibility patrols and engaging with local residents. He also asked people not to share distressing images or videos, as these can be upsetting for families and may be important to the police inquiry.
