Cooler days follow recent heat
The Met Office is forecasting a gradual easing of the recent sizzling temperatures across the Vale of Glamorgan as the week comes to a close. Coastal towns that recorded some of the county’s warmer readings are set to see milder conditions, with daytime highs slipping into the mid-20s.
In Barry, daytime temperatures are expected to peak at 28C today before falling back to around 25C on Saturday and 23C on Sunday. Night-time conditions will be notably fresher, with lows close to 16C overnight as sea breezes continue to moderate the heat.
Penarth and local outlook
Penarth will experience similar changes. Earlier highs of about 28C are expected to ease to the mid-20s by the weekend, and overnight temperatures should drop into the high teens. A gentle north-easterly breeze is likely to keep conditions more comfortable along the seafront.
- Barry: high of 28C today, falling to mid-20s over the weekend.
- Penarth: highs around 27–28C before easing to 24–25C.
- General picture: largely dry with sunny spells, a low chance of brief showers.
What to expect next week
Into the start of next week the forecast indicates temperatures settling in the low-to-mid 20s, generally dry with sunny interludes. There is an expectation of cloudier skies by Tuesday, which may limit afternoon sunshine but should not bring prolonged wet weather.
For those planning outdoor activities this weekend — from beach visits to local events — the milder conditions should be welcome after a hotter spell. However, short-lived, light showers cannot be ruled out, particularly on Friday afternoon when a slight chance of rain remains.
