Bird’s Bakery has confirmed plans to open a new branch at Egstow View Business Park in Clay Cross, marking the firm's first outlet on an industrial estate in Derbyshire. The store is due to welcome customers from Thursday 27 August and will operate seven days a week.
Location and opening hours
The new shop, on Oakleaf Close, is being positioned to serve workers at nearby firms as well as residents from a close housing development. Management say the site has been tailored to suit the industrial-park setting while still offering the bakery’s familiar range of products.

Design and offer
The outlet will display Bird’s updated branding, featuring a spring green and teal palette, and will centre around a prominent counter serving the bakery’s standard range of breads, savouries and sweet items. Seating has been designed in partnership with social enterprise RAW Workshop, which repurposes furniture; the layout will include a mix of picnic benches and conventional tables and chairs.
Serving the local community
Bird’s says it hopes the new shop will meet the needs of customers seeking a quick breakfast or lunch on site, as well as those wishing to sit in. The company’s managing director provided a statement outlining the rationale for the site and the expectations for its role in the local area.
"We're really looking forward to opening our doors in Clay Cross and becoming part of the local community and expanding our presence in Derbyshire. This is our first store on an industrial estate, and customers can still expect everything they know and love about Birds"
Practical information and local impact
The new branch is located close to businesses on the estate and residential areas, which Bird’s has said influenced the design and opening times. As with other openings, the presence of a bakery on an employment site could provide a convenient amenity for shift workers and office staff, though the company has not released details on staffing numbers or recruitment for this location.
