Regular users of Peterborough's outdoor Lido will be able to park free in a city-centre car park if they buy multi-swim passes this summer. The concession is being offered as part of a short-term scheme running until 30 September.
How the offer works
Swimmers who purchase either 20 or 40 swim passes will be issued with a permit allowing them to use the Regional Pool car park in Bishops Road at no extra cost for the remainder of the Lido season. The initiative is a joint arrangement between Peterborough City Council and the leisure charity Vivacity.
- Eligible passes: 20 and 40 swim bundles
- Parking location: Regional Pool car park, Bishops Road
- Scheme duration: until 30 September
Context and linked parking changes
The permit offer comes at the same time as a separate parking relaxation in Peterborough funded by the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority. From 3 August, a number of council car parks will be free after 3pm. The sites included in that scheme are:
| Car park | Free after |
|---|---|
| Bishops Road | 3pm |
| Car Haven | 3pm |
| Riverside | 3pm |
| Pleasure Fair Meadow | 3pm |
Councillors say the combined measures are intended to encourage more people to use the Lido and to support city-centre footfall during what remains of the summer period.
"We're extremely proud to have a fantastic facility like the Lido in Peterborough which many people have already enjoyed this summer with the warm weather. We've launched this free parking scheme to encourage even more people to get swimming and also enjoy what our city centre has to offer, so I would encourage everyone to use it."
What this means for swimmers and visitors
For frequent swimmers the permit makes multi-buy passes more attractive by removing the additional cost and hassle of parking in the city centre. Occasional users can also benefit from the separate free-after-3pm offer if they arrive later in the day, though that relaxation does not require a swim pass.
Practical points to note:
- Permits are linked to purchase of the specified swim passes only.
- The Regional Pool car park is the stated location for the permit – drivers should check signage and any time restrictions on arrival.
- The city-wide free-after-3pm scheme is time-limited and applies only to the named car parks.
Anyone planning to use the Lido should contact Vivacity or Peterborough City Council for precise details on how permits will be issued and displayed, and for any terms that apply. The measures will remain in place until the end of the Lido season on 30 September.
