Two men have been charged with the murder of a Derby street cleaner who was assaulted while at work in 2023. The charges follow an incident in St Peter’s Street in the city and the subsequent death several weeks later of Kevin Clarry.
Alleged attack and medical timeline
Police say an altercation involving Mr Clarry and two men happened a little after 6am on 28 October 2023. As a result of the incident he sustained serious head and facial injuries. Months later, on 11 December 2024, Mr Clarry — then aged 66 — was found collapsed at his home in Wiltshire Road and was taken to the Royal Derby Hospital. He died three days later on 14 December 2024 at around midday.

Who has been charged
The two men charged are named by police as Miles Jones, 29, formerly of Hall Park Close, Derby, and Stephen Beresford, 27, formerly of Charnwood Street, Derby. Both have been charged with murder and are due to appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court.
