Milton Keynes will position itself at the heart of a national conversation about critical technologies later this year after organisers announced the theme and a headline event for Milton Keynes Tech Week 2026.
Flagship conference to focus on 'Sovereign Technology'
The week-long celebration of innovation, running from 12 to 18 October, will be anchored by a new one-day conference and expo on 15 October at Unity Place. The event’s declared theme is “Sovereign Technology” — a focus on the development and security of technologies, data and digital infrastructure that underpin economic resilience and national competitiveness.
Organisers say the conference will bring together business leaders, policymakers, researchers, entrepreneurs and investors from across the UK for keynote talks, panel discussions and networking. Sessions are expected to cover sovereign AI and data, advanced manufacturing, deep tech, and the role of the Oxford–Cambridge Growth Corridor in building resilient technology capability.
Local context: investment and ambition
The announcement comes at a time of increasing investment and profile for Milton Keynes within the wider innovation corridor. The city is part of initiatives such as an Open University-led Innovation Circuit project, which has attracted up to £20 million of support from UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).
Milton Keynes’ growing profile is also reflected in its bid to be UK City of Culture 2029, signalling a parallel push to raise the city’s cultural as well as economic standing.
“Milton Keynes has one of the UK’s most exciting technology ecosystems,” said Simon Wright, Director of Protospace.
What to expect and next steps
The full programme and speaker list for the flagship conference are due to be published over the summer. The one-day format is intended to provide a national spotlight for the city and to draw attention to partnerships and innovations that could shape the UK’s technological future.
